Samsung is holding its second event of the year later this week to show off some of its latest mid-range and budget smartphones coming out in 2022. The South Korean-based tech powerhouse has already started sending out invitations for the virtual event slated for Thursday, March 17th 2022, starting 10AM Eastern Time (3PM GMT) and (6PM East African Time).Â
This occasion, dubbed the Galaxy A Event comes just over a month after the company launched its flagship Galaxy S22 series smartphones at the first Galaxy Unpacked event of this same year.
This year’s event seeks to showcase new additions to the Galaxy A Series.Â
What new smartphone models should we expect?Â
Samsung has kept us in the dark over which A-series phones we’re going to see at the online-only event.
Rumors however suggest two new devices are to be added to the current Galaxy A series lineup; The Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A53. Nevertheless there is also the possibility of 3rd model, the Galaxy A33, not forgetting other members of the A-series are likely to be included in Thursday’s big announcements. Â
1). Galaxy A73
Looking into a December 2021 report by Android Police, the tech news website says the A73 is retaining the 6.7inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen present on the A72 smartphone. A 90Hz screen refresh rate ability is also in the mix.Â
It is going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G octa-core processor and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging capabilities. Its storage capabilities are 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.Â
An IP67 rating just like the current A72 makes the upcoming A73 a dust and water resistant gadget.Â
Lastly, on the rear side, the phone will have a 108MP primary (main) lens installed within a quad-camera setup.

2). Galaxy A53
A53 may sport a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen display as well as an impressive 120Hz refresh rate and a hole-punch cutout at the top center part of the screen to fit in the selfie camera.
It is said to have a Samsung Exynos 1280 SoC (System On a Chip) processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
At the back, the A53 will feature a quad-camera setup featuring a 64MP main camera, a 12MP Ultrawide lens and two 5MP sensors. For selfies, the phone will have a 32MP front camera.Â
Similar to the A73, the A53 is also fitted with a 5,000mAh battery and support for 25W fast charging.Â

3). Galaxy A33
A recent leak by 91 Mobiles and Screen Rant both claim the A33 comes with a 6.4inch FHD+ AMOLED screen display and probably a 60Hz screen refresh rate.
The device is going to run on a MediaTek Dimensity 720 octa-core chipset alongside a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support.
It also boasts of a 4-camera-lens system (quad-camera) at the backside featuring a 48MP main camera.Â

Other Key Points
Rumors and leaks also have it that both the Galaxy A73 and A53 may come with 5G network connectivity which would be an upgrade to the A72 at least since the current A52 already has a 5G variation. Some reports have also pointed out the A33 will be 5G enabled.Â
Its not yet clear exactly which software (Android version) all three phones will ship with but my bold prediction is both the A73 and A53 are coming with Android 12 plus Samsung’s newly introduced One UI 4 software installed in them.
As for the A33, there’s a high chance it’ll ship with Android 11 pre-installed and not the latest Android 12 OS.Â
NOTE: Tech rumors about upcoming devices are usually not 100% accurate as they are just predictions from different news outlets.Â
The ‘A’ series is actually Samsung’s best seller
Galaxy A-series devices don’t normally get the hype and buzz that their flagship ‘S-series’ counterparts do but they’re Samsung’s best sellers nonetheless.
The ‘Galaxy A‘ family is very important for Samsung. As the phones are way cheaper than the premium Galaxy S lineup but still offer some of the same features and some decent specs.Â
Galaxy A models are attractive because they offer big screens (6.1inches and above), surprisingly powerful cameras (64MP is not unusual) and good battery life (up to 5,000mAh). Current A series devices like the Galaxy A52 5G sell for roughly $350 (39,953Kshs) which is further proof of their cost friendliness.
Conclusion
I’m expecting Samsung to give us a breakdown of the finer details such as; timing (when the products start shipping to customers), prices, and a lot more. For now, the devices we’ve highlighted remain a prediction so of course, we won’t know anything until the D-day arrives.Â
Where can I watch the show?
As earlier mentioned, it’s scheduled for this coming Thursday, 17th March 2022 at 10AM Eastern…that’s 6PM East African Time.
